• Emergency Medical Responder (EMR)

    You will be trained as a prehospital care provider with the basic level of certification. The State EMR course is approximately 60 hours, which we offer as an evening course at our headquarters in Salisbury. After completion of the course, both a practical and written test are required for certification. Squad members assist in preparing EMR candidates for both tests.

  • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)

    EMT is the highest level of certification that SVAS is approved to have as part of our squad. Every ambulance call requires at least one EMT to be part of the response team. As an EMT candidate, you will be trained and certified to appraise and initiate the administration of emergency care for victims of trauma or acute illness before or during transport of the victims to the appropriate medical facility via vehicle or aircraft. National EMT course (approximately 150 hours) will be offered locally when possible, or we will assist you in locating an online national EMT course. A national written and practical test are required for certification.

  • Rescue

    You will be trained in rescue on-scene operations including extrication of victims from motor vehicles, and participation in trail and other search and rescue operations. SVAS membership plus ambulance driver qualification plus additional Rescue training required. You will be encouraged to achieve EMR status.

  • Ambulance Driver

    As part of the EMS team, you will be trained in vehicle and related radio operations. Responsibilities include assisting EMR’s and EMT’s in patient preparation and transport to the appropriate medical facility. SVAS membership plus initial CPR/AED/First Aid; Hazmat; and Blood borne/Airborne Pathogen Training required. Minimum age 21 with 5 years clean driving record, passing of physical and passing of classroom and on-road course training required. You will be encouraged to achieve EMR status.
