• When you call 911 from anywhere in Salisbury, we are the EMS providers that respond to the call. Our service is made up of Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs), Emergency Medical Responders (EMRs), and ambulance drivers. Together, we provide what is known as “Basic Life Support” - treating patients experiencing cardiac arrest or difficulties, respiratory distress or an obstructed airway, and and other medical issues; we also treat traumatic injuries.

We go to where we are needed, whether that is a home, school, scene of an accident, mountain trails and rivers, or wherever else a medical emergency may occur.

  • We have personnel who are specially trained in rescue services. We own and operate a fully-equipped Rescue Truck and other smaller vehicles (such as ATVs) to get us to the scene of a rescue, and we have specialized rescue equipment. We respond to rescues of many types, from extricating patients trapped in cars and tractors damaged in accidents to assisting and extricating patients from mountain trails.

  • If you need to go to the hospital, we own and operate three state-of-the-art, fully-equipped ambulances to get you there and to treat you en route when needed.

  • We co-respond with paramedic agencies when an advanced level of medical care may be required. We also coordinate with multiple agencies to provide the best possible response. This includes ambulance services from neighboring towns, fire departments, and police departments. And it goes both ways - we provide mutual aid to other towns when they need us.

  • Although our town covers nearly 60 square miles, we are a small community of people and neighbors. That has been the ethos of SVAS since its founding: Neighbors Helping Neighbors.

We do more than bandage your injuries and drive you to the hospital: we care about the health and welfare of the people in our town. We provide comfort in some of your most difficult moments. We often know our patients, and are familiar with their medical and other needs. And if you need help from another agency in town, we can help coordinate that, too.
